I figured I 'd write about Reykjavík sometimes on the blog. The Nordic House by the University just had a dining room makeover. The former cafeteria was made into a restaurant. Alvar Aalto originally designed every detail of the building that among other things houses a Nordic library. It first opened in 1968. The wooden interiors being 40 years old, made it hard to make reproductions with new wood. So they got permission from Helsinki to paint some details in white. The cutting boards are from Ittala (the pattern of which is also Alvar Aalto's design). The lava rock is an Icelandic touch.
